Broadcast-quality ingest: supported Betacam formats are played on professional Sony equipment and captured through a Blackmagic DeckLink card over SDI, preserving embedded digital audio and the original interlaced video signal.

About Digital Memories
Digital Memories is a local, independent digitisation service based in Baldoyle, Dublin 13, backed by over 20 years of experience working in broadcast television with a wide range of professional and consumer video formats.
That experience means your recordings are handled by people who understand the equipment, the formats and the importance of getting the best possible transfer from ageing media.
We have built our studio around dedicated playback equipment for everything from VHS, Video8 and Hi8 to MiniDV, DVCAM, Betacam and Digital Betacam, as well as cine film, audio cassettes, photographs and personal discs.
Everything is transferred in-house at our Baldoyle studio. We don't outsource your tapes, films or photographs to third parties. From the moment your media arrives until your originals are returned, it remains in our care.
We started Digital Memories because the recordings sitting in cupboards and attics around Ireland won't last forever - and the equipment needed to play many of these formats is becoming increasingly difficult to find and maintain.
Our aim is simple: to combine broadcast experience, professional equipment and personal service to preserve those recordings in modern digital formats that families can enjoy, copy and share for years to come.

How does the process work?
It is simple:
- Contact us with a list of what you would like digitised. Include clear photos where possible.
- Tell us how you would like the files returned. We offer a free Dropbox download link for transfers up to 10GB, which remains active for 90 days. You can also choose a USB flash drive or, for larger projects, a portable hard drive.
- We will reply with an approximate quotation and any questions we may have.
- If you are happy to proceed, carefully pack your media in a padded box - not a jiffy bag - and send it by registered mail. Alternatively, you can drop it off at our studio in Baldoyle, Dublin 13.
- Once everything arrives, we inspect the media and confirm the final price.
- After payment, we complete the transfer and quality checks.
- Your digital files and original media are returned by registered post (An Post) or DPD, depending on the size of the order. Free collection from our Dublin 13 studio is also available.
Will I get my originals back?
Yes. All original tapes, reels, photos and discs are returned after transfer.
Can I post my media?
Yes. We serve customers across Ireland and can provide packing guidance.
What file formats can you supply?
MP4, MOV, ProRes, MXF, JPEG, TIFF, WAV, and MP3 are available depending on the source and your needs. The default video format supplied to customers is MP4 @ 10mbps CBR, which is more than adequate for old SD conversions and has maximum compatibility across devices. Other export formats are available on request.
Do you transfer commercial discs?
Only personal CDs and DVDs are accepted.
How long will my files be stored on the cloud?
Your files will be securely stored for 90 days, giving you ample time to download them. After that, they will automatically be removed. So make sure to download all of your files before the deadline and make a backup copy for yourself. Complimentary cloud downloads are only offered for projects of 10GB or under.
Is my media handled in-house?
Yes. Every transfer is completed personally in our Baldoyle studio by trained broadcast technicians. Your media is never sent to a third party.
What condition must cine film be in?
We currently transfer Standard 8 and Super 8 film only. Film must be in playable condition before it reaches us.
- We do not repair damaged film or broken splices.
- No splice repair, mould treatment, reconstruction or editing is included.
- Unplayable reels will be returned without transfer.
When do I pay?
Once we receive and inspect your media, we will confirm the final price. Any earlier estimate is approximate until the items have been assessed. If you decide not to proceed, your media will be returned by tracked DPD delivery for a flat fee of €15.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash (on collection/in person only), Revolut, PayPal, and bank transfer.
Who pays for shipping?
You are responsible for the cost of sending your media to us. Please use registered, tracked post only and package everything securely in a padded box rather than a jiffy bag.
Return shipping is also tracked and is included in your final quotation. Smaller parcels are normally returned by An Post, while larger or bulkier orders are sent by DPD.
Do you offer audio cassette transfers and file splitting?
Our standard audio cassette service creates one WAV and MP3 file per side of each cassette.
Track splitting and track naming are not included, but can be requested and quoted separately.
Optional audio clean-up, including hiss reduction, can be requested and quoted separately.
How much does return shipping cost?
Return shipping is tracked and added to your final quotation. Current An Post rates used for estimating return delivery are:
- Up to 500g — €10
- Up to 2kg — €13
- Up to 5kg — €15
- Up to 15kg — €17
- Up to 20kg — €20
Registered services include tracking, signature, proof of delivery and insurance where applicable. Orders over 20kg are priced individually and sent by DPD.
